Board-certified interventional cardiologist Dr. Thomas Mathews has opened the St. Luke Heart Institute, his new practice at 14533 Cortez Blvd., across from PineBrook Regional Medical Center, west of Brooksville. He is accepting patients.

The Philadelphia native is a magna cum laude graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where he completed his residency in internal medicine. He was also chosen for a cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University.

Mathews specializes in clinical, nuclear and interventional cardiology and the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disorders. He has practiced in Hernando County for a number of years and has privileges at Brooksville Regional and Spring Hill Regional hospitals, Oak Hill Hospital and Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
